"The collie is not only a useful and valuable helper, but is also most devoted and affectionate to its master...There is really a sort of instinctive nobility and dignity in the nature of a collie which leads it to expect kindness in return for its intelligent work and devoted attachment."
American Agriculturalist, March 1893
Scotch Collies have always been well-loved for their high intelligence, strong loyalty, and unprecedented desire to please. In the late 1800's and early 1900's, these dogs were greatly sought out for their herding ability and even temperament. During that time, farmers and city dwellers alike utilized Scotch Collies both as working farm dogs and as family pets; however, as the country's desire for show dogs increased, and the number of small family farms decreased, the Scotch Collie became virtually obsolete.
Thankfully, in the late 1980's, a small group of folks ignited a deep interest in saving these dogs from extinction. We are honored to be counted among a select few active OTSCA breeders in the country and are convinced there is no better dog for a family or farm.
